In this ever-shifting religious and political landscape, you have to pay close attention. I thought I had been. On the eve of the megachurch pastor Rick Warren’s presidential candidate forum last weekend, an editor asked if any conservative evangelical pastors were doing anything similar — reaching out to both parties and championing bipartisanship to help those in need.
“Nah,” I replied dismissively. “I haven’t heard about anything like that.” Of course, as a good reporter, I agreed to offer proof, sending out an e-mail to several of my right-leaning Christian pastor contacts. Oops. Two responded that they’d recently been in touch with Warren about the role of the church in the election, and one sent a detailed e-mail about his shift in thinking since the last presidential election. Not the kind of revelation a pastor calls a press conference for, but a meaningful development in the way he approached politics and religion.
Saudi textbooks, religious freedom and why it matters

A Saudi man cut out his daughter’s tongue and then burned her to death as punishment for her conversion from Islam to Christianity. That religious freedom does not exist in Muslim Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is regrettably not a surprise. Tragically, murdering converts to Christianity is not uncommon in Saudi Arabia. What makes this case so revealing is that the girl’s father is an employee of Saudi Arabia’s Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice—the very organ of the government that enforces the nation’s absolute prohibition of Christianity and conversion to Christianity.

IN THE MIDST OF PERSONAL TRAGEDY, PASTOR GREG LAURIE URGES AUDIENCES TOTALING 109,000 TO PUT THEIR FAITH IN CHRIST DURING WEEKEND HARVEST CRUSADE
“I’m Preaching to Me as Much as I’m Preaching to You—I Know God is Here No Matter the Circumstance.”
RIVERSIDE, Calif., August 18, 2008— It was just three weeks ago that Riverside, Calif. pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie learned that his son, Christopher, had been killed in a tragic automobile accident, but in the midst of what he has called the worst moment of his life, Laurie points to his faith in God and His promise of eternal life as the only true hope for healing. It was this message that Laurie shared with audiences totaling more than 109,000 during the 19th annual Southern California Harvest Crusade held this past weekend, August 15 – 17, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

Thousands Touched by Laurie’s Message on Life, Death and Heaven

ANAHEIM, Calif. – An estimated 29,000 people were present for the opening night of the 19th annual Southern California Harvest Crusade in Anaheim, Calif., including some 2,750 people who made their first-time commitments or rededicated their lives to Christ.
Kicking off this year’s three-night evangelistic event were musical artists including the Katinas, Leeland, and first-time Harvest performer Randy Travis. And despite the recent death of his 33-year-old son, pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie took to the stage to deliver the keynote sermon, proclaiming with boldness his persistent faith in the ever-present God and the place in Heaven that has been assured to those who believe.
“I’ve been preaching for – believe it or not – 35 years; I started when I was 3,” Laurie said Friday night, drawing the laughter of the crowd. “And I’ve talked about Heaven my whole life. And I’ve given many messages on life after death. And I’ve counseled many people who have lost a loved one. And I thought I knew a little bit about it. But I have to say that when it happens to you it’s a whole new world.”

Washington, is a magnet for all sorts of young people, including a group of devoted Christians who spend their days and nights praying for the nation in a small room on Capitol Hill.
Their second-floor office off Pennsylvania Avenue is the energy center for Justice House of Prayer (JHOP), a four-year-old ministry strategically placed in an arrow-shaped room that points toward the Supreme Court two blocks away.
From there, they shoot off prayers for the justices, for President Bush and above all, to stop abortion, which the Supreme Court ruled legal on Jan. 22, 1973.

| Israeli archaeologists have unearthed a seal impression belonging to a minister of the biblical King Zedekiah, which dates back 2,600 years, during an archeological dig in Jerusalem’s ancient City of David. The finding helps corroborate the story pertaining to the biblical minister’s demand to have the prophet Jeremiah killed.
The seal impression, or bulla, with the name Gedalyahu ben Pashur, who served as minister to King Zedekiah (597-586 BCE) according to the Book of Jeremiah, was found completely intact just meters away from a separate seal impression of another of Zedekia’s ministers, Yehukual ben Shelemyahu, which was unearthed three years ago. |

Pre-Christian Stone Tablet Foretells Resurrection

The death and resurrection of Christ has been called into question by a radical new interpretation of a tablet found on the eastern bank of the Dead Sea.
The three-foot stone tablet appears to refer to a Messiah who rises from the grave three days after his death - even though it was written decades before the birth of Jesus.
The ink is badly faded on much of the tablet, known as Gabriel’s Vision of Revelation, which was written rather than engraved in the 1st century BC. This has led some experts to claim that the inscription has been overinterpreted.
ACLU trying to silence prayers at Annapolis - OneNewsNow

A former Navy chaplain thinks it’s wrong that the ACLU would seek to restrict the free-speech rights of midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy who participate in optional noon prayers.
This is not the first time an organization has attempted to silence the optional prayers, which have been a long time tradition at Annapolis. The Anti-Defamation League unsuccessfully sought to get the Academy to end the noon prayers in 2005. Now the American Civil Liberties Union claims that even though the prayers are technically optional, social pressure compels students to join in — and it has written a letter to the school seeking an end to the requirement that midshipmen stand for the noon prayer.
Arab Agents Infiltrate Temple Mount - WorldNet Daily

JERUSALEM – A number of Arab states quietly have sent intelligence agents to infiltrate the Temple Mount to determine how they can obtain more influence over Judaism’s holiest site, informed security sources told WND.
“It’s possible in the coming two years a deal will be made that transfers the Temple Mount out from Israeli hands,” said a security source. “The Arab countries are vying for influence, since they think controlling the site means big prestige in the Muslim world.”
The security sources said the Arab agents mostly are attempting to infiltrate the Waqf, the Muslim custodians of the Temple Mount, securing all sorts of positions from Waqf garden workers through religious clerics inside the Mount’s many mosques.
The Waqf is largely controlled by Jordan, which took over top positions from the Palestinian Authority in recent years.
